CALGARY, Alta. – Dawson Lew has become the first player to enter the field for the 2027 RBC Canadian Open after winning the 121st Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, presented by BDO on Thursday at Mickelson National Golf Club in Calgary, Alta.
Lew, 17, won his second national championship by three shots and fired rounds of 70-65-67-69-271 to finish 17-under and with it earn his second consecutive exemption into the RBC Canadian Open.
“We are proud to congratulate Dawson Lew on winning the 121st Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship and with it he becomes the first entry into the field for the 2027 RBC Canadian Open,” said Ryan Paul, Tournament Director, RBC Canadian Open. “Dawson was very impressive this year, making his PGA TOUR debut at our Men’s National Open and we look forward to watching him compete with the world’s best next year in Caledon.”
The Team Canada NextGen member became the ninth player in history to win both the Canadian Junior Boys Championship (2025) and the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship joining a prestigious list of winners that includes 2023 RBC Canadian Open champion, Nick Taylor.
“It’s an unreal feeling, I know Nick Taylor did it and anytime you’re in the same sentence as him it’s pretty cool, he is a Canadian icon,” said Lew upon learning that he joined the prestigious group after his win on Thursday.
Lew made his Canadian Men’s National Open and PGA TOUR debut this June at the 2026 RBC Canadian Open, finishing at 4-over following rounds of 70-74.
The 2027 RBC Canadian Open will take place June 7 – 13 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ont.
