Two of Canada’s top golfers are hoping that playing in front of their fellow Canadians this week will invigorate their PGA Tour seasons.

Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., are arguably the two highest-profile Canadians on the top men’s tour and, therefore, two of the biggest attractions at this week’s RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.

Taylor, who won the event in 2023 to end a 69-year drought for Canadians at the national men’s championship, said it’s always a treat to play north of the border.

“We’re kind of stars for the week, which is abnormal for us. So it’s a lot of fun,” said Taylor on Wednesday, noting that he was in a group with Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont. “The support was amazing, the crowds were great, so I’m hoping for the same the next couple days and hopefully turn that into some good play and play well on the weekend.”

Taylor is 52nd on the PGA Tour’s points list and Conners is 83rd as the circuit approaches the midway point of the season. Taylor said the season’s been “mostly positive.”

“A lot of good stuff, a lot of pretty decent results, a lot of consistent play,” said Taylor at a news conference. “There’s been a lot of tournaments I feel like I’ve left disappointed, not really finishing off with the result that I wanted. 

“I’ve been in contention a handful of times, I saw things there, I feel like I’m building towards a good stretch for the end of the season.”

Conners, renowned for his ball-striking ability, said he’s also searching for more steady play this year.

“My game’s been unusually inconsistent,” said Conners. “I’ve had some good stretches, some not so good stretches. Some weeks have I’ve found it for a couple of the days and then lost it for the others. 

“Just trying to focus on playing pretty free, not trying to overthink things.”

The Canadian Open has been in the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area since 2015, rotating between five courses. It appears the event has found a somewhat permanent home at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley as it hosted the championship last year, this year, and will again in 2027.

“We’ve gotten to play some great golf courses in the RBC Canadian Open, but I think this is feeling like home for the event now,” said Conners. “I’m excited about that. 

“It’s what typically we’re used to week-in and week-out on the PGA Tour and they have done a wonderful job. This is a really impressive facility. It’s got everything that we want.”

The 34-year-old Conners and 38-year-old Taylor are two of the most experienced golfers among the 21-player Canadian contingent at the national championship. They have played in the Canadian Open 14 and 15 times respectively.

“I think it can be an intimidating feeling playing in your national open, playing in a PGA Tour event for the young guys,” said Conners. “I think my advice to them is really trust their game. They’re here for a reason. 

“Don’t try and overdo things, just try and be free and trust what got them here and enjoy the experience, have fun. The fans are going to be cheering them on, it will be a great experience for them regardless of how they play.”

Hughes, Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford and Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., will be playing in an all-Canadian group on Thursday and Friday. Weir is playing in his 33rd Canadian Open, second on the all-time list behind Toronto’s George Cumming (39).

Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, Ont., the top-ranked Canadian on the PGA Tour, is also in the field. He’s 48th in the FedEx Cup standings.

“I played a few practice holes and been paired with Sudarshan and he’s really impressive,” said Conners. “I love how he goes about his business. He’s really focused in on each shot. He hits the ball far, hits it straight, a great putter. 

“There’s really no holes in his game, and I think you’ve seen that.”

PGA Tour regulars Pendrith, A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam, B.C., Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C., and Roger Sloan of Merritt, B.C., will all tee it up Thursday morning.

Drew Nesbitt of Horseshoe Valley, Ont., Victoria’s Jeevan Sihota, Matthew Anderson of Mississauga, Ont., Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., Laurent Desmarchais of Cowansville, Que., Joey Savoie of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., Yohann Benson of Pincourt, Que., and Ashton McCulloch of Kingston, Ont., round out the pro contingent.

Amateurs Justin Matthews of Little Britain, Ont., Dawson Lew and Eric Zhao, both from Toronto, will also be playing.

“I feel like managing the expectations of the week is probably one of the most important things,” said Taylor. “The first few times I was an amateur, obviously you’re very excited and you want to do well. Just embracing the week is important.”

There was one thing Ryan Fox knew he had to check out as soon as he returned to TPC Toronto for this year’s RBC Canadian Open.

The New Zealander immediately sought out the plaque mounted by the 18th green at the golf course northwest of Toronto that commemorates his four-hole playoff victory over American Sam Burns to win last year’s Canadian men’s national championship. 

“I’ve never had one of those before, so that was a pretty cool novelty today,” said Fox at a news conference on Wednesday morning. “I saw it, literally, 15, 20 minutes ago. 

“To see that and also look at that second shot again and try to relive that memory, that was pretty cool.”

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s North Course hosted the Canadian Open for the first time last year. Aside from a handful of Canadian players who’d played it before, that put the field on equal footing.

Fox hoped that his familiarity with the course would carry over to this week’s tournament as he defends his title.

“Coming here last year was nice, everyone was in the same boat, no one’s really seen the golf course, everyone’s trying to figure it out,” said Fox, who is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour. “Now we’re coming back to the same place and going, ‘I know all the shots, I kind of know how I’m going to play the golf course.’ 

“Obviously, it might be a little bit different depending upon the wind, but I know where I’m trying to hit it on every tee. It makes the week a little bit less stressful trying to figure it out.”

Fox’s competition will be stiff as a stacked field will tee off for Thursday’s first round.

There are four players in the top 10 of the FedEx Cup standings, the point list of the top-tier PGA Tour. England’s Matt Fitzpatrick is third, Collin Morikawa of the United States is fifth, fellow American Jacob Bridgeman is ninth, and England’s Tommy Fleetwood is 10th.

Some of the tour’s top players are skipping the event — like world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 2 Cameron Young, both from the U.S., as well as two-time Canadian Open champion Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland — to rest before next week’s U.S. Open, the third major of the men’s golf season.

Fox said he believes it’s a stronger field than last year, even with the big-name absences.

“It’s a tough place in the schedule, there’s going to be guys just not want to play the week before a major regardless of the event,” said Fox with the Canadian Open trophy beside him. “I think it speaks to the history to this event. I think everyone came out of this golf course last year really enjoying it. 

“There’s such a great history at this event, and it is a pretty good warm-up for next week.”

Morikawa, who hasn’t played since the PGA Championship on May 17 as he dealt with nagging back issues and became a first-time father, said he understood why some players take a week off ahead of a major, and others play.

“I’ve had good results both ways. I think it depends on how your game’s feeling, if you played the major golf course before, the schedule leading up to it,” said Morikawa, who won the PGA Championship in 2020 and the British Open in 2021. “There’s a big mix on what guys like to do. I think you can do it either way. 

“Honestly, I don’t prep that differently during those weeks. Some guys do, and I think that creates a scheduling conflict with playing a different tournament before.”

There are 21 Canadians in the field, including Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., who won in 2023 to end a 69-year drought for Canadians at their home championship.

CALEDON, Ont. – The final field is now set as the last four players received exemptions to the 2026 RBC Canadian Open following the Final Qualifier at the Pulpit Club in Caledon, Ont. on Sunday.

Canadians Eric Zhao of Toronto, Ont. and Laurent Desmarchais of Cowansville, Que. were tied at the top of Sunday’s leaderboard at 4-under 67. Vince Covello of Philadelphia, Penn. and Jeevan Sihota of Victoria, B.C. were the other two to receive exemptions following rounds of 3-under 68.

Team Canada member Zhao finished the round with five birdies, three of those coming on holes 11, 12, and 13. “That was a lot of fun, I have to give credit to my caddie, he had some good reads on the green today, and I made some good putts coming in,” said Zhao.

“This is going to be my first PGA TOUR event, it’s going to be super fun, it’s an honour to get to have my first one be in Canada and get represent my country. It’s going to be really cool with the fans being mostly Canadian,” said Zhao when asked what is means to play in the RBC Canadian Open.

Desmarchais will make is first start on the PGA TOUR following his round at the Final Qualifier. “Its unreal, I mean I’m like shaking, it was a really good round of golf, and it means so much to me to get to play here in Canada, it’s a dream come true,” said Desmarchais. He finished the round with five birdies and one bogey to shoot 4-under 67 and earn his exemption to the RBC Canadian Open.

Covello will be making his second career start at the RBC Canadian Open after playing in last years event. “The round was pretty steady all in all, I made one bogey on 17 unfortunately, other than that I hit a lot of really good approach shots and got it up and down early,” said Covello. “The course was in great shape, cool golf course with a lot of character to it, unique in a lot of ways.”

I’ve been on the Canadian Tour for probably five different seasons, and I always love coming up here, it’s good golf, great people, and really good crowds out there,” said Covello. He finished the round with four birdies and one bogey, carding 3-under 68 at the Pulpit Club.

Sihota shot 3-under 68 carding six birdies and three bogeys to earn exemption into his first PGA TOUR event at the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto. “It means the world, this is what you dream about as a kid. I’m really looking forward to the experience,” said Sihota.

“I had three birdies in a row on 11, 12, and 13 which was nice, on 11 I hit a nice drive on top of the ridge and had a nice shot in. On 12 I stuck it close and had a tap in and then on 13 I hit it on the green in two and two putted for birdie,” said Sihota. “I felt really good, this is a really good track, its tough out here, I putted really well today.”

The world-class field is led by four players currently in the top ten on the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) including Matt Fitzpatrick (world no. 4), Justin Rose (world no. 6), Collin Morikawa (world no. 7), Tommy Fleetwood (world no. 8) and 2025 defending champion, Ryan Fox (world no. 57).

CALEDON, Ont. – Vince Dunn (Seattle Kraken) and Brandon Tanev (Utah Mammoth) finished the round with 39 Stableford points to win both the net and gross categories in the RBC Canadian Open Faceoff on Thursday, at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ont.

The RBC Canadian Open Shootout format uses a Stableford point system which awards points as opposed to strokes based off their score related to par on each hole (Eagle 4-points, Birdie-3 points, Par 2-points, Bogey 1-point, Double Bogey or worse 0-points).

In addition to Dunn and Tanev, the field featured 12 NHL players including Jake McCabe (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Steven Lorentz (Toronto Maple Leafs), Taylor Raddysh (New York Rangers) and Darren Raddysh (Tampa Bay Lightning), Jordan Kyrou (St. Louis Blues) and Jake Wallman (Edmonton Oilers), and Johnathan Castagna (Calgary Flames) and Zayne Parekh (Calgary Flames). Dunn and Tanev secured the win finishing with 39 Stableford points and shooting a net score of 8-under 62. Along with winning the RBC Canadian Open Shootout, Dunn and Tanev have won a trip courtesy of Turkish Airlines to anywhere the airlines fly’s out of.

Tanev finished the round with two birdies shooting 1-over 70. “Vince and I played some great golf, was nice to see lots of guys coming out from the Toronto area getting to have a cool experience. Not often you get to play a great course like this, especially right before the RBC Canadian Open,” said Tanev. “We had a great day, lots of fun, and a lot of great people, glad we could all come out here and have a great experience. Vince and I played some good golf which was fun.”

“Didn’t have a great day out there, on 18 I put the drive a little bit to the right in the fescue which was honestly better than the rough a lot of times today, had a nice four iron and hit it to about a foot and a half and tapped it in for eagle,” said Lorentz after finishing his round on a high note.

McCabe had the longest drive on hole five hitting it 330 yards, and Parekh hit closest to the pin on the Rink Hole no. 14.

Canada’s Men’s National Open Championship

CALEDON, Ont. – Golf Canada and RBC have confirmed the names of 13 players who have accepted exemptions into the 2026 RBC Canadian Open, taking place June 10 – 14 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) in Caledon, Ont.

Among those earning exemptions are nine Canadians, led by recent winner and current top Canadian on PGA TOUR Americas, Joey Savoie of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. Savoie won the KIA Open de Ecuador earlier this month and has one additional top 10 finish in four events played this season. He will be making his third appearance at the RBC Canadian Open.

Joining Savoie are four members of Team Canada, Ashton McCulloch of Kingston, Ont., Justin Matthews of Little Britain, Ont., Matthew Anderson of Mississauga, Ont. and Dawson Lew of Toronto, Ont.

McCulloch will compete in his third consecutive RBC Canadian Open and his first since turning professional earlier this month. McCulloch earned two top five finishes this year at The Duck Invitational (T3) and the Watersound Invitational (T5) as he closed out his collegiate career at Michigan State University. The 2023 Canadian Men’s Amateur champion will be competing in his fifth PGA TOUR event, having played at the 2025 U.S. Open and 2025 Rocket Classic in addition to his RBC Canadian Open appearances.

Matthews will also make his third consecutive appearance at the RBC Canadian Open, earning his exemption as the low Canadian on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), currently at No. 138. This season, Matthews earned two top fives and an additional top 10 in his senior year at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Anderson will be competing at Canada’s Men’s National Open Championship for the fourth time, with his best finish coming last year at T47. This season, Anderson has two top 25 finishes in 12 events on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Lew will be making his first appearance at the RBC Canadian Open. Lew is coming off a strong season last year, winning five tournaments including the 2025 Canadian Junior Boys Championship. The Team Ontario program alum also earned a T5 finish at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship last year. This season, Lew earned a runner-up finish at the Terra Cotta Invitational in April and is currently the fourth ranked Canadian on WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) at 17 years old.

Three other Canadians will be in field including Roger Sloan of Calgary, Alta. who will be making his 10th appearance at the RBC Canadian Open. This season, Sloan has one runner-up finish and two additional top 25s in 12 events played on the Korn Ferry Tour. His best finish at the RBC Canadian Open was T34 in 2023. Drew Nesbitt of Toronto, Ont. will be making his fourth appearance at Canada’s National Open Championship. Nesbitt earned his exemption as the top Canadian on PGA TOUR Americas last season with one win and two additional top five finishes. Yohann Benson of Pincourt, Que. earned his exemption as the PGA of Canada’s Order of Merit leader and will make his first appearance at the RBC Canadian Open.

As previously announced, Canadian golf icon Mike Weir of Bright’s Grove, Ont. will compete in his 33rd RBC Canadian Open. Weir sits second all-time in appearances at Canada’s National Open Championship behind fellow Canadian Golf Hall of Famer George Cumming (35).

A 18-player Canadian contingent is currently set to  challenge for the national championship led by 2023 RBC Canadian Open champion, Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and fellow PGA TOUR winners, Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont., Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., and Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. Also confirmed are Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., and PGA TOUR rookies Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, Ont. and A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam, B.C.

“We are pleased to announce these additional exemptions, led by a group of Canadians that will be competing for our National Men’s Open Championship at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley,” said RBC Canadian Open Tournament Director Ryan Paul. “We look forward to the field continuing to take shape this week and awarding the final four spots into the field at Sunday’s Final Qualifier.”

Declan O’Donovan of Sydney, Australia, who won the 2025 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship and Calen Sanderson of Newton, Pa. winner of the individual championship at the 2025 Men’s Canadian Collegiate Invitational, will both make their first appearance at the RBC Canadian Open. O’Donovan and Sanderson earned exemptions for their wins last season.

Two additional international exemptions have been awarded to Padraig Harrington of Dublin, Ireland and 2011 RBC Canadian Open champion, Sean O’Hair of Lubbock, Texas.

Harrington, a three-time major winner (2007 & 2008 Open Championship, 2008 PGA Championship) also won three additional times on the PGA TOUR and has 11 PGA TOUR Champions wins and 15 international wins during his career. Harrington represented Team Europe as a player in six Ryder Cups, winning four (2002, 2004, 2006, 2010) and served as Captain in 2020. In addition, Harrington competed in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will be making his second RBC Canadian Open appearance.

O’Hair is a four-time winner on the PGA TOUR and will be making his 16th start at the RBC Canadian Open. In addition to winning in 2011, O’Hair has a pair of third place finishes (2006, 2008). O’Hair represented and won as a member the United States team at the 2009 Presidents Cup.

Three additional exemptions will be awarded by Golf Canada ahead of the field being finalized for the 2026 RBC Canadian Open.  Four additional spots into the field will be up for grabs during the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier on Sunday, June 7 at The Pulpit Club in Caledon, Ont.

at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley

Alexa Goldie joins performance line-up for two nights of live music  

CALEDON, Ont. – Golf Canada is pleased to announce that Dwayne Gretzky and the James Barker Band will headline the RBC Canadian Open After Party, during the 2026 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ont.

Canada’s greatest party band, Dwayne Gretzky will be the headliner on Friday, June 12 followed by two-time JUNO Award winner, James Barker Band on Saturday, June 13 as part of Canada’s Men’s National Open Championship. In addition, Alexa Goldie will be opening for the James Barker Band on night two of the RBC Canadian Open After Party.

Alexa Goldie will take the stage at 5:30 p.m. followed by the James Barker Band at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.

The RBC Canadian Open After Party will launch for the first time this year bringing post round entertainment spotlighting Canadian talent to the tournament’s main fan activity hub, The Fare Way featuring The Keg.

The Fare Way featuring The Keg will offer premium food and beverage options and patio experiences and will see an expanded footprint to accompany more fans during tournament week. On Friday, June 12 a watch party will take place showing the Canada v. Bosnia and Herzegovina soccer match at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

CALEDON, Ont. – The 2026 RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifying Series will feature five events across the country as players compete for spots into the Final Qualifier on Sunday, June 7. 

Following changes to PGA TOUR field sizes for the 2026 season, players who finish within the top ten per cent of the field (and ties) at each Regional Qualifying event will earn a spot into Final Qualifying.

Monday, May 4 – Lookout Point Country Club Ltd. – Fonthill, Ont.
Thomas Code led the field with a 1-under 71 at the first RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier at Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill, Ont. on Monday. Code, of Dorchester, Ont. was the lone player under par and recorded two birdies to finish atop the leaderboard and book his place into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier, along with 21 other players in Fonthill. Thursday, May 7 – Highland Pacific Golf – Victoria, B.C.
Luke Bogdan led the field shooting a 3-under at the RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier at Highland Pacific Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. on Thursday. Bogdan, from Langley, B.C. finished the round with four birdies and qualified for the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier, along with nine other players in Victoria. Monday, May 11 – Oshawa Golf & Curling Club – Oshawa, Ont. 
Kyle Gordon led the field shooting 5-under 66 at the RBC Canadian Open Qualifier at Oshawa Golf and Curling Club in Oshawa, Ont. on Monday. Gordon, of Whitby, Ont. opened his round with a bogey but quickly turned things around going bogey free the rest of the way, carding six birdies to earn his place into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier, along with 13 other players in Oshawa. Wednesday, May 13 – Elm Ridge Country Club – Île-Bizard, Que.
Samuel Breton Gagnon led the field shooting 3-under 69 at the RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier at Elm Ridge Country Club in Île-Bizard, Que. on Wednesday. Breton Gagnon, from Quebec City, Que. finished the round with an eagle and five birdies to book his spot into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier, along with 15 other players in Île-Bizard. Thursday, May 28 – Northern Bear Golf Club – Sherwood Park, Alta.
Will Holan led the field with a 5-under 67 at the final RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier at Northern Bear Golf Course in Sherwood Park, Alta. on Thursday. Holan of Edmonton, Alta. finished the round with six birdies to earn his spot into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier, along with 6 other players in Sherwood Park.
